Laura Piedad Parra Acosta
Laura Parra was born in Popayan, Colombia where she did her undergraduate studies in Viola Performance at the Universidad del Cauca, under the guidance of Veronika Sharipova.
She has participated in music festivals both nationally and internationally like the “Second International Viola Festival” organized by the Mussorgsky Conservatory in Yekaterinburg, Russia, the Georgy Ivanovich Teria International Festival in Moscow, the Joven Orquesta de la Generalitat Valenciana in Valencia, Spain, the Five-week Summer Performance Program and a Music Production Workshop at Berklee College of Music in Boston, the “Berklee Latino” workshop in Bogotá, Colombia, the Santa Catarina Music Festival (FEMUSC) in Brazil, and the Religious Music Festival of Popayán.
She has worked and participated in several workshops in the Children and Juvenile Symphony Orchestra of the White City in Popayán as a viola teacher, in the Caucamerata foundation as a violist, in the Gimnasio Calibio Extracurricular Activities program as a violin and viola teacher, in the CENIDI Foundation as a music teacher for children and teenagers with cognitive disorders, and in the Filarmonía Popayán as first chair of the viola section.
She will be finishing her Master in Viola Performance at Western Michigan University this Fall 2020, where she studied and will continue studying with Prof. Igor Fedotov, and then she will continue her studies in the Music Therapy Equivalency Program at the same University.
