Bertha Barbee-McNeal

Bertha Barbee-McNeal is a highly motivated educator, music professional and community leader dedicated to promoting academic and artistic excellence in students and others.

Bertha began taking piano lessons at age nine. Her love for music inspired her to obtain her BA and Masters Degrees in music education from Western Michigan University.  In addition to teaching piano in Kalamazoo Schools, providing private lessons to people of all ages, and public performing,  Bertha acquired the reputation as an enthusiastic community leader anxious to promote diversity in the community.

Bertha is also a member and co-founder of the Motown Recording Girl Group “The Velvelettes.” In addition to teaching at Helen Fox Gospel Music Center, she continues to share soulful energy and talent when she performs with the Velvelettes.
